	*Performances of Handel's* Messiah have also been given in 1994/1997 and 2000 as part of the BT Voices for Hospices Appeal**

This photograph was taken during a visit to Knechtsteden, near Cologne, when about 50 members of the choral society gave a concert of English music, the highlight of which was a first performance in the region of John Rutter's Magnificat. This was acclaimed with a five-minute standing ovation and a request for the Misericordia to be repeated at Mass in Knechtsteden Basilika the following morning, again with long applause from the large congregation. Rutter's work made such an impression that some months later it was performed by local singers as part of a choral festival.
