Our Music Director

Malcolm Riley was born in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. He gained an organ scholarship to Christ’s College, Cambridge, where he studied the organ with Arthur Wills and Charles Spinks.

As well as performing, he also composes and arranges music. His composition, De Temporibus Canticum, was commissioned by the Choral Society to celebrate the Millennium and gave its first performance in December 2000. It was subsequently performed again in 2007. His other works include an oboe concerto and an orchestral arrangement of Brahms E minor Cello Sonata.

Recent performing engagements have included organ recitals at York Minster, Leeds Parish Church, Derby Cathedral, St Bride's Fleet Street, and The Temple Church, London

As well as teaching at Cranbrook School as Director of Music, he is a regular contributor to The Gramophone and the author of two books: Percy Whitlock - A Biographical Study (Sessions, 2003), and the Percy Whitlock Companion (The Percy Whitlock Trust 2007).
